Don't you just love debates about the best movies and music, as the possibiities are so deliciously endless? Well, I do, too. So I want everybody to give me a hand out there and spark some debates about my list of top 10 songs from 1981.

A few years back, while visiting Ireland, my wife and I met up with another American tourist, who felt the need to intercede in our domestic debate about that dreadful, inexplicable snack food circus peanuts. I remember his words well, and I find them highly applicable to this occasion: "There's no accounting for taste."

With that in mind, please feel free to submit your own lists or simpy revise my list to your liking. I look forward to your responses.

I certainly have my own ideas but … what was your criteria for formulating this list? record sales? what songs best demonstrate the genre? Rich Ferrara

I think the list is great. I had forgotten about some of these old songs that I used to love. Now I am going to download on my ipod. Thanks for the reminders.

Another good song from 1981 would be “Another brick in the wall, pt 2″ by Pink Floyd…..even though I do not like it.
