An Alternate Path to a Worthy '80s Music Compilation
I'm sure you've come across no shortage of '80s compilation CDs if you're a fan of the era. Trouble is, quantity in this case tends to deliver pretty much the opposite of quality. Many seem hastily thrown together, without much purpose or unity. So I guess it's no accident that the best '80s music collection I've come across on CD wasn't even conceived as a compilation in the first place. The Wedding Singer has always been one of those movies that demands a viewing right there on the spot even if I'm unlucky enough to catch it on basic cable in heavily edited form. Such an occasion befell me the other night, but at least during that umpteenth viewing I managed something fruitful in realizing just how comprehensive the film's two-volume soundtrack is. There's not a bad track on either disc, and for my money '80s music fans should start here in lieu of all the haphazard, K-Tel-inspired hack compilations floating out there. Check out my review of both volumes here.
