Goofy Lyrical Hair Metal Snapshot - Dangerous Toys' "Scared"
Friday October 6, 2006
Although this late-'80s hard rock band from Texas injected some much-needed raw energy to the wildly popular but increasingly syrupy hair metal genre, the group may be best known for committing one of rock's clunkiest lyrical crimes against all things poetic in the slightly gothic "Scared". The song itself comes off as a somewhat interesting exploration of nightmare imagery and paranoia, but things fall apart and the centre cannot hold during the second appearance of the chorus. At this point, lead singer Jason McMaster, accompanied by what sounds like the entire band or some serious overdubs, somehow spits out the following lyric: "Man, I really, really think, really think that I think I like being scared." Umm... what? Personally, I don't really, really know what it feels like to think that I think I like something, but maybe it's just me. What do you, dear readers, really, really think that you think about this burning question?

I disagree – that was an awesome song!! I had it on cassette (ick) but downloaded the mp3 last year. Also, I made a clown costume for a friend of mine based on the album cover back when it came out and he won first place in the contest he entered.
