In Memoriam: Boston Lead Singer Brad Delp Dead at 55

Friday March 9, 2007
Tough news broke tonight for rock music fans across the globe when word came down that Brad Delp, longtime lead singer of arena rock giants Boston, has died from unknown causes. Although the melodic rock band released only one album during the '80s, I'm particularly distraught over this loss and moved to commemorate Delp's life because Boston will always be such a deep thread in my personal musical history. I didn't really discover the band until the mid-'80s as an adolescent, but its brilliant 1976 debut album remains one of my earliest and most cherished memories of the magic of rock and roll. And much of the credit for that must go to Delp and his soaring, one-of-a-kind voice. Maybe the the band's official website has already said enough in one sentence to pay tribute to a fallen comrade, but let me just say you will be missed and remembered fondly by so many of us, Brad. Hope the spaceship is as cool as it always looked on the album covers.

No shit! That will be the end of an era. Brad Delp and Boston signified a style of music like Lynyrd Skynyrd; original and from the hip. You didn’t see them putting out an album just to make their quota. That’s why Third Stage took as long as it did. They fought and WON the right to take the time to do an album and do it right. Delp’s passing will be akin to Van Zant or SRV. The end of one of the pioneering forces of real rock and roll music.

Scholz may be the prime mover of Boston
but Brad is the trademark sound of Boston! Those classic songs will always ensure that you live on in our fondest memory. May you have “Peace of Mind” in your “Cool Your Engines” spaceship.>
