Rick Springfield Continues to Argue for His Own Relevance on New CD
Wednesday August 6, 2008
For my inaugural borrowing of guest reviewer Alun Williams from his usual place covering classic rock, I've found an energized perspective to help spice things up on this site. Check in with Alun as he discusses Rick Springfield's first album of new material in five years, Venus in Overdrive. The record apparently covers a lot of ground in terms of influence and tribute, revealing that Springfield is far from giving up on a vibrant, notable career even a quarter-century removed from his greatest successes.

Well, it seems the flak has started … - I received a personal message ….
I’d like to make an official apology, as I gave the WRONG year of the release of Rick’s last original release as 2003 when in fact it was 2004!
It seems for whatever reason I should’ve pulled out my copy of Shock/Denial/Anger/ Acceptance - which yes, I do have, but at the time of review of the latest album, it was buried somewhere!!!!
I’m sorry to Rick’s fans for making an error on that previous releases info …
Whatever though, this album is still excellent, no matter what folks take from my words ….
Perhaps people need to see that it was in fact a positive rather than a downing review.
Sadly there’s no pleasing everyone.
Thank you for giving him the respect he deserves. I have always loved Rick for his songwriting and am glad to see you agree!
As far as Rick’s fans they are a fiercely loyal bunch please forgive them if they get carried away sometimes!
