NPR's Negative Assessment of '80s Music - Unscientific Hogwash?
That's not to say there are no thirty-something NPR fans out there (of course there are many), but I don't think this data should be interpeted to mean that '80s music is somehow inferior to that of the '60s or '70s, or even the '90s music likely favored by people who came of age a bit after the '80s faded. Maybe I'm oversensitive, but it rather annoys me that unscientific data such as this becomes yet another opportunity to disparage an incredibly rich musical decade with the long-standing cliched putdowns that its music lacks substance and long-term importance. Such a generalization seems tantamount to someone making the statement that NPR enthusiasts are so typically elitist and driven by snobbery that they ignore pleasing aspects of pop culture to advance only appropriately highbrow notions of arts and entertainment. Notice that I didn't present that in the form of a declaration but instead as a gentle suggestion of something To Be Considered.

NPR = Leftist Elite Garbage, most of them have their nose sofar in the air, it would drown them if it rained on them, leftist do not work (waiting for the Gov’t handout) so they will not get wet & they have plenty of time to listen to NPR (No Play Radio). long live good music 80’s, 60’s & 70’s. nothing new is worth a fart.
Hey,
Well, I’m 29 years old, a sometime NPR listener, and I love ’80s music. Am so excited about Rock of Ages, the new Off-Broadway musical coming out soon! Rock of Ages
Lets see, I love 80’s music, I’m under 40, and I listen to NPR every day on my way to and from my job. Keep in mind that 15 years ago 70’s music was looked down on, not to mention 80’s was the birth of the music video. Some people have some very strong reations to the style of the times. As more current bands start citing 80’s bands as influnces, we will see a rebirth.
Also Butch, for those of us who live in coastal states NPR is a real life saver when hurricanes come. They have state wide networking systems and emergancy info. That’s their main reason for being on the air. I hope you live in an area where nothing bad happens, otherwise you may have to become an NPR listener to save your own nose.
