As the world soberly recognizes today what would have been Michael Jackson's 51st birthday, it's a good time to reinforce admirers' musical memories against the coming storms of circus-like controversy. With speculation swirling that Dr. Conrad Murray - if not other personal Jackson medical providers - will soon be criminally charged in the singer's June 25 drug-overdose death, fans should shield themselves from the kind of ugliness perhaps they're not even accustomed to. And that's saying something, given the tawdry, bizarre personal life of Jackson while he was still alive.
In fact, today may be the last day to look back upon the King of Pop's astounding '80s musical accomplishments with even the slightest shred of purity. Oh, who the hell am I kidding? We haven't been able to do that for a tremendously long time, but that's beside the point. So what is the point, then, you may ask? Well, perhaps the least we can do as '80s music fans is try to focus on the man's music - at least for today - at the complete exclusion of the current tabloid nonsense that will remain terminally inescapable for the foreseeable future. Check out the links below for a much-needed escape - you can scan the blogs tomorrow, as they'll surely still be there.
