When You're Thinking Country Music, Don't Forget About the '80s!

By April 29, 2014

Follow me on:

When most music fans think about '80s music, they tend to focus on the pop and rock styles that ruled MTV and thrilled young audiences. However, there was a period during the early '80s when country music laced with elements of soft rock and pop became a hot commodity in the Top 40. In addition, the latter half of the decade represented its own special period of country music critical appreciation, as the New Traditionalist movement ushered in some now-legendary artists like Lyle Lovett and Dwight Yoakam, who added to the decade's rich country tapestry held together by artists as disparate as Alabama, Rosanne Cash and Randy Travis. So all '80s music connoisseurs, including yours truly, would do well to remember to sprinkle in some country from time to time when assembling our prized '80s playlists.
