Both Chicago and Kool & the Gang took a lot of heat during the '80s for their newly found pop success, as longtime fans of both '70s giants muttered "Sellout" far more often than they professed continuing admiration for these bands. Still, each group delivered quality music during the '80s, granted, with some misfires along the way. Ultimately, both artists simply displayed central aspects of Darwin's famous, sometimes inexplicably maligned theory: they changed with the times and adapted to changing internal and external circumstances. Of course, at the end of the day it's up to the ear of the beholder to determine whether or not the '80s careers of these legendary bands were more embarrassing than moments of celebration and inspiration.
