Prepare to Be Aghast - "Owner of a Lonely Heart" Marks Its Silver Anniversary

Saturday January 24, 2009
No, I'm not talking about another one of those lame special edition re-releases of a classic '80s album. I just realized with horror that rock anthem "Owner of a Lonely Heart," the most famous track from the '80s comeback of '70s prog rock legends Yes, reigned supreme as the top pop hit in the nation during the fourth week of January 1984.

So, I'm now at a point in life where I can easily remember in rich detail any number of things that happened a whole quarter-century ago? Ugh - that's more than twice as many years as my age at the time that have merely drifted away like wispy slips of paper. If this is a graphic pop culture-related way of recognizing the sheer power of the aging process, then I can only imagine how strange it might feel to still be alive at the golden anniversary of the release of Appetite for Destruction. All I know is that the only thing I can say with confidence about 2037 is that we'll probably still be awaiting the release of Axl's painstakingly prepared follow-up to Chinese Democracy. Oh well, here's to mortality.

Thankfully, Chinese Democracy managed a release date still in the first decade of the new millennium.
